Explosives Centre supported test firings of domestic mobile artillery system

The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command’s Explosives Centre supports the national defence industry by conducting test firings of new domestic weapon systems as a paid service. In June 2025, the Explosives Centre carried out test firings of the ARVE (ARtillery on VEhicle) mobile field gun system developed by Patria, in close cooperation with the company.
The new system, under the project name Patria ARVE, is based on the 155 K 98 field gun, which has been integrated onto a Sisu all-terrain truck chassis. During the successful test firings at the Explosives Centre’s range, dozens of rounds were fired at various elevation and traverse angles, including direct fire scenarios.
The Explosives Centre participated in the planning and execution of the firings, and was responsible for measurement and documentation activities together with Patria.
The aim of the testing and evaluation activities carried out by the Explosives Centre is to ensure that new ammunition and weapon systems are safe for the user and function as intended. In addition to supporting the development of the Defence Forces’ own materiel, these services are also offered on a commercial basis to the domestic defence industry.
The Explosives Centre is also responsible for the production, maintenance and disposal of explosive ordnance used by the Finnish Defence Forces.
