The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces participated in meetings of the Chiefs of Defence of the Nordic Countries and the Arctic Chiefs of Defence

The Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola, participated in the meetings of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) and Arctic Chiefs of Defence (ACHOD) held in Iceland on October 8–9, 2024.

In the portion led by Denmark that addressed NORDEFCO, the topics included the implementation of the NORDEFCO Vision 2030 and the Nordic Defence Concept. Another key part of the meeting focused on defence materiel cooperation. In addition to the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, the meeting was attended by Olli Ruutu, Director of the Resource Policy Department from the Ministry of Defence. Finland will serve as the chair of NORDEFCO in 2025.

The meeting of the Arctic Chiefs of Defence (ACHOD) was hosted by Iceland. The members of the forum are Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United States, and Canada. The aim of the forum is to strengthen cooperation and security in the Arctic region. The topics of the meeting included, among others, the situation in the operational environment and the development of practical-level cooperation.
