Major General Jari Mikkonen appointed as Chief of the Logistics Command

Major General Jari Mikkonen accepted the duties of Chief of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command in Tampere on 17 June. At the same time, Brigadier General Engineering Juha-Matti Ylitalo was appointed as Deputy Manager of the Command.

Major General Mikkonen accepted the duties of Chief of the Logistics Command from Major General Engineering Kari Renko. Renko, who is transferring to the reserve at the end of June, has acted as Chief of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command since 2020. Major General Mikkonen has previously served as, for example, Chief of Logistics of the Defence Command, Chief of Staff of the Finnish Air Force and Air Command Commander of the Karelia Air Command.

At the same time, Brigadier General Engineering Juha-Matti Ylitalo accepted the duties of Deputy Manager of the Logistics Command, as Brigadier General Timo Saarinen is transferring to the position of Chief of Logistics of the Defence Command. Brigadier General Engineering Ylitalo has previously served as, for example, Chief of the HX Fighter Program's material project, Chief of Branch and Head of Department at the Joint Systems Centre and Head of Department at the Finnish Air Force's materials department.

Established in 2015, the Logistics Command is responsible for materiel acquisitions for the Finnish Defence Forces, the operational capability of troops, personnel and systems and the usability of materiel. The Logistics Command employs over 2200 employees, and it operates throughout the country.
