The Defence Forces Logistics Command is responsible for materiel acquisitions for the Defence Forces, the operational capability of troops, personnel and systems, and the availability of materiel.

The Logistics Command Headquarters is responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the activities of the Command and it directs the administrative units under it.

The Logistics Command works with domestic and foreign cooperation partners on a regular basis in order to carry out its task to ensure the efficient use of the Defence Forces’ capabilities and execution of operations in all circumstances.

The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command became operational on 1 January 2015 as the Materiel Commands of the Army, Navy and Air Force were disbanded and their activities were reorganised into the Logistics Command.

The troops of the Defence Forces and their equipment constitute the capabilities of Finland’s defence system, the development of which is long-term and based on thorough planning. The Defence Forces Logistics Command participates in this work in all of its phases.

The Defence Forces logistics system is an entity formed by the Defence Forces and its partners enabling the operations of the troops of Defence Forces and the development of its capabilities in all states of readiness.

The Logistics School provides logistics training included in officer training degrees, on the basis of the needs of the services, and conducts research activities aimed at developing the Defence Forces logistics system.

The Defence Forces Logistics Command comprises six brigade-level units and a Headquarters.

The 2nd Logistics Regiment supports the administrative units of the Defence Forces and the Border Guard in the organisation of logistics and support in all states of readiness. As for its special features, the Regiment conducts maintenance tasks related to the Navy’s special materiel and services involving clothing, tents and field accommodation, field provisioning and medical materiel in the Defence Forces.

The 1st Logistics Regiment supports the administrative units of the Defence Forces and the Border Guard in the organisation of logistics and support in all states of readiness. As a special feature, the Regiment is responsible for the storage and condition monitoring of explosive material.

The 3rd Logistics Regiment supports the administrative units of the Defence Forces and the Border Guard in the organisation of logistics and support in all states of readiness. As a special feature, the Regiment provides materiel resupply and maintenance services for military aviation.

The National Codification Bureau Finland is the national agency in charge of managing the codification of the Defence Forces’ materiel under the supervision of the Defence Command Logistics Division.

7.9.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces maintains readiness and carries out statutory duties under all circumstances. At the same time, disease risks and the necessary preventive measures are responsibly taken into account in all activities.

3.9.2026 | Rail transportation is very important for military mobility. The Finnish Defence Forces and VR Group signed a partnership agreement, with the aim of improving the planning, coordination and reliability of rail transportation as a part of the Defence Forces logistics system.

The Defence Forces and civilian society actors network together and pursue cooperation in the framework of partnerships, which is a precondition for the operation of the Defence Forces’ logistics system in normal and emergency circumstances.

4.5.2026 | Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command (FDFLOGCOM) has joined the Coalition for Resilient Procurement and Unified Support (CORPUS) with the defense procurement agencies of seven European nations.

1.9.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and Marine Alutech Oy Ab have signed a contract for the delivery of 18 next-generation Jurmo-class landing craft to the Finnish Navy. The total value of the procurement is 25,2 million euros.

1.9.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Denmark-led Arctic Endurance 26 -exercise complex in the Arctic region in early autumn. The exercise will be participated by service personnel from the Navy and from the Utti Jaeger Regiment.

11.5.2026 | Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Defence Forces Logistics Command to procure thermal clip-on optics, related equipment, and spare parts for sniper and designated marksman rifles. The value of the procurement, excluding value-added tax, is approximately EUR 24.5 million.

The Joint Systems Centre is responsible for the management of the technical life cycle of the Finnish Defence Forces' systems and materiel and their maintenance. It also answers for the technical preparation of procurements.

The Centre for Military Medicine takes care of the health of conscripts and the Finnish Defence Forces personnel. The centre also organises training in field medicine and conducts military medicine research.

25.8.2026 | On 24 August, the Finnish Defence Forces signed an agreement for the procurement of unmanned FPV drones from Insta Group Oy. The total value of the contract, including options, is 14 million euros.

4.9.2026 | Chief of Defence Command Finland, Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen visited Boden, Sweden 2–3 September 2026. The topic of the visit was Finnish-Swedish defence cooperation (FISE), particularly from the perspective of Forward Land Forces Finland (FLF Finland).

27.8.2026 | The assembly of the hull of the third Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvette being built for the Finnish Navy has been completed at the Rauma shipyard.

6.7.2026 | An international naval mines cooperation (NMC) project concerning the common procurement of naval mines has advanced to the framework agreement phase. As a representative of the lead nation, the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command has signed a contract in 25.6. with the Finnish company Forcit, on procuring the Blocker Influence Mine for the participating countries. So far Finland, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania and Norway have joined the project.

The Explosives Centre is responsible for the production, maintenance and decommissioning of explosives in the Defence Forces.

18.6.2026 | On 18 June 2026, Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen authorised the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command to purchase GBU-53 Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) glide bombs from the United States. Glide bombs will be used in Finnish Air Force F-35A multirole fighters.

3.9.2026 | Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR), Air Chief Marshal Sir Johnny Stringer visited Finland on 2 -3 September 2026. The visit was hosted by the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola, and the programme included visits with the President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.

15.6.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) have signed an implementation Arrangement on information exchange and pre-series procurement concerning the development of Arctic armoured personnel carriers.

7.7.2026 | Finland has acceded to the Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) capability programme. The accession gives Finland access to flight hours with Airbus A330 MRTT multirole aircraft and strengthens Finland’s contribution to the development of NATO’s shared capabilities in aerial refuelling, strategic airlift and medical evacuation.

28.5.2026 | Finland and Latvia signed an Implementing Arrangement on the joint development of a Common Protected Vehicle (CPV) system and related technologies in Tampere on 28 May 2026. The arrangement also enables future serial procurement.

26.5.2026 | Norway has signed the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Framework Agreement which allows serial procurement of CAVS 6x6 vehicles. The CAVS Framework Agreement has been already signed between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany and Denmark.

24.2.2026 | Hull assembly of the second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette being built for the Finnish Navy was completed at the turn of the year at the Rauma shipyard. The vessel has received its grey protective coating, and part of the protective covering has been removed.

28.8.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces is deepening cooperation with Sweden to strengthen the surveillance and protection of Finland’s territorial integrity. Close cooperation with our NATO ally will strengthen security in the North and NATO’s Eastern flank, also enhancing Finland’s and Sweden’s interoperability in all situations, both in peacetime and during emergencies and disruptions.

14.1.2026 | The Squadron 2020 programme is progressing as planned. Steel cutting for the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette has commenced, and the keel of the third vessel has been laid in accordance with naval tradition at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard. With these milestones, construction of all vessels included in the programme is now underway.

28.8.2026 | The exercise conducted in Louisiana was part of the cooperation between Karelia Brigade and the Virginia National Guard under the official partnership program between Finland and state of Virginia.

4.9.2026 | The Air Force Command Finland organized a basic training course on drop-capable drones in cooperation with the European Defence Agency (EDA) in Tikkakoski from 31 August to 3 September 2026.

8.9.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will procure up to more than hundred vehicle-fitted and -mounted mortar systems from Patria Land. Modular and mobile, the new 120mm mortar M3 weapon system will improve force mobility, protection, and fire delivery capability over a wide area.
